Children's Literature: Guide to Resources: Home

This guide leads students of children's literature to library resources that help them identify and select fiction and non-fiction for children.

Introduction

This guide is designed to answer questions that a student of children's literature might have. Use the tabs above, one for each question listed below, to find resources that answer each question.

1. How do I find newly published children's literature? The tab "New ChildLit" will lead to resources for keeping up-to-date and aware of new children's books that are being published. 

2. How do I identify good children's books? Use the "Best ChildLit" tab for resources that help you find excellent reading material for children that meets a specific need. You might need picture books for a unit about dinosaurs or chocolate or a non-fiction book for second graders about snow.

3. Where can I get children's books?  Having identified good children's books, the "Get Books" tab tells you how/where to actually get the books.

4. How do I find articles in magazines or entire magazines for children to read? The "Kids' Magazines & Articles" tab will help you learn where you can find articles and stories in magazines for children and help you find entire children's magazines that might be used in the classroom.

5. How can I find biographical and critical information about authors and illustrators? To learn about a specific author or illustrator, use the resources provided in the "Authors and Illustrators" tab.

6. How do I find out more about children's literature?  Learn more about about children's literature by using the resources included in the "Learn About Children's Literature" tab.
