Glossary of AI Terms

artificial intelligence (AI): the use of computers to model the behavioral aspects of human reasoning and learning (Lagasse & Columbia University, 2018)

Chat Generative Pre-training Transformer (ChatGPT): an advanced language model developed by OpenAI, designed to understand and generate human-like text based on the input it receives  (Margarella & Stobaugh, 2023)

generative AI: artificial intelligence that is capable of generating new content (such as images or text) in response to a submitted prompt (such as a query) by learning from a large reference database of examples (Merriam-Webster, n.d.)

machine learning: the branch of artificial intelligence (AI) concerned with creating systems that can automatically improve their ability to perform tasks such as classifying images, interpreting text, or finding patterns in data (Henderson & Henderson, 2021)
