December 21st is the Winter Solstice, but winter feels a bit longer here in South Dakota. This makes December a great time to start up a new book - and we've got plenty to pick from! Plus, if there's something you're looking for but can't find, we can always request a loan from a different library so you can still get your reading done for the month.

This time of year is also known as the season of giving, and December is appropriately known in turn as the National Month of Giving. Let's all do our part to give to others this month.

Universal Human Rights Month

December celebrates Human Rights in commemoration of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948, shortly after the end of WWII. The assurance of universal human rights continues to be a noble and necessary endeavor to this day, 75 years later.
