How to get EndNote Desktop

Dakota State University students, faculty, and staff can download a desktop version of EndNote as part of the Mundt Library's subscription to Web of Knowledge (Clarivate Analytics) database.

If you want to upgrade from an earlier version, see upgrade instructions below before downloading.
To download, choose either EndNote for Windows or EndNote for Mac below to download EndNote Desktop.

How do I upgrade from an earlier version?

UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS

Will my database/library be automatically converted to the new version?

1. EndNote should be able to convert any library from an earlier version of EndNote. Before upgrading to a new version of EndNote, you may want to use the "Recover Library" command on your "EndNote library" to ensure that the data in the library is cleaned up.

2. If you do have problems converting a library, see the Support links on the EndNote website.

While this is not strictly necessary, EndNote recommends that you uninstall all previous versions to avoid application errors.

1. First back up any existing EndNote library files and any customized content files (e.g. styles, connection files, and filters).

2. Close all open programs, and then uninstall any older versions by selecting "Add/Remove Programs" from the Windows Control Panel (or trash the old folders on a Mac).

3. Once any older versions have been uninstalled, run the EndNote download following instructions elsewhere on this page.

4. This will create a new EndNote program folder, and you can then move any backed up library or content files into this new folder.

FOLLOW THE STEPS TO DOWNLOAD:

1. Please contact the library to get the product key. reference@dsu.edu

2. Click to download this zip file https://download.endnote.com/downloads/20/EN20Inst.msi

3. Complete the installation wizard.

4. If you are unable to download, please report the problem to DSU Librarians.

MAC DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS

BEFORE YOU BEGIN.

If you are currently using a version of EndNote before X9, read "How do I upgrade from an earlier version?".

FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO DOWNLOAD:

1. Please contact the library to get the product key. reference@dsu.edu

2. Then download the Endnote.dmg application Click to download: Click Here

3. After downloading, open (double-click) Endnote.dmg and follow the on-screen instructions

4. You’ll find Endnote in "Applications" when you are ready to use the program.

5. If you are unable to download, please report the problem to DSU Librarians.
